The Shoebill Tour

The tour takes approximately 3,5 - 4 hours preferably starting at 07:00 am, but the starting hour can be adjusted to suite your needs. 

The starting point is at Sunset Hotel Entebbe. We pick-up from any hotel within the boundaries of Entebbe Municipal Council. After payment at Sunset our driver will take you to Nakiwogo to enter the boat for Mabamba. The boatride is usually a very nice and comfortable experience with many things to see like Entebbe town from the water, the airport, fishermen with their boats, and many different species of birds.

Upon your approach at Mabamba bay there will also be many smaller birds to see in the papyrus reeds. Here, the birding guide takes over as you enter the smaller flatbottomed boats/canoes more suitable for the wetlands. 

The time with the guide in the wetlands may take 1-2 hours depending on how soon you find the shoebill and is satisfied with your tour. Even on your way back it is not unusual to see other interesting birds, like pelicans. 

What to wear: The boats and canoes are open and you need to bring cover for rains and sunshine.

• Pickup from any other hotel within Entebbe MC, if applicable
• The slightly larger boat across the lake
• The smaller flatbottomed canoe in the wetland (max 3 per canoe)

• The local wetland entrance and taxes
